The superhero genre has long been spearheaded by two of the most extensive franchises, Marvel and DC. Both franchises have been responsible for producing brilliant movies on the big screen.
After conquering the theatre, Marvel ventured into making its name on the small screen via TV series. Unfortunately, lately, the shows haven’t fared well among fans who quickly grew disappointed with the franchise. DC’s The Penguin has led to a far greater response, leading fans to believe it couldn’t be compared to Marvel’s latest show Agatha All Along.
The strong opponent and lost trust
After the sad state of Marvel TV shows, fans began to lose trust in the franchise to ever produce a hit like Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki again. The 2023 show Secret Invasion set the bar extremely low and was even ranked as the worst MCU show ever.

The 2021 show What If…? started great with its plot centered around the indefinite multiverse but it lacked consistency. She-Hulk: Attorney At Lawstarred Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk but the show received immense backlash.

Other Marvel projects like The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaseverely underperformed at the box office. This further distressed fans who were already at odds with the franchise and its’ ability to master storytelling on the small screen.

Amid such chaos came HBO’s new show focused on a rather uncelebrated character from Matt Reeves‘ The Batman. The plot revolved around the character of Penguin from DC Comics and Colin Farrell reprised his role from the 2022 film.
The shining beacon for Television viewers
DC’s miniseries gained a splendid response from viewers who had long anticipated a superhero show that could intrigue them. Rotten Tomatoes ranked the show at a high score of 94%, stating its popularity.

A recent debate on social media cemented the show’s status as being far superior to its Marvel competitor, Agatha All Along. Fans commented praising the series for its spectacular storytelling, stating the Marvel show couldn’t be compared.

Sure can be but there are different qualities of tv and none of Marvel’s are in the same quality bracket as The Penguin. This is coming from a Marvel Stan that’s watched absolutely everything they’ve put out

I agree completely, The Penguin is so much better than anything marvel is dropping at this moment unfortunately.

If you mean not one Marvel Studios Disney+ show then yes. But for Marvel in general, Daredevil is still better than The Penguin

Others criticized past Disney+ shows and their unfavoured response from the audience. Farrell’s performance as Gotham’s malicious villain won over not only the critics but also the viewers who declared the show was unmatched.

Although Kathryn Hahn‘s just premiered a while ago, fans were swift to align their loyalties with The Batman spin-off. The WandaVision spin-off has a long way to go if it wants to successfully change the image of Marvel TV shows in fan’s eyes.
The Penguin is currently available to watch on Max.
